So Much News to Share....

Hello all my newsletter friends,

So we finally made it through a harsh winter. This wasn’t my best winter by a long shot. I know I’ve hinted about it on Facebook and talked about the heroes who rescued me, but here’s the story (isn’t it always about the story?)

I was at the most perfect place to write --- Rivendell Writer’s Colony in Sewanee, TN. I was just finishing THE IDEA OF LOVE when I decided to take a little hike all alone (you already see where this is going, right?). Well, I unknowingly wandered off the path and found myself on a rock ledge overlooking this gorgeous forest. Sounds great, right? But there was a problem --- the rock ledge ended and I couldn’t get myself turned around. I fell (plummeted would be a better word) into the ravine below and blew up my ankle. Yes, I know: I’m lucky. Trust me, I know it could have been much worse.

So after being rescued by a group of amazing men (Sewanee Fire and Rescue), surgery, some nuts and bolts and a bungee cord installed in my ankle, I am finally up and about --- just in time for my book tour and all the fun that surrounds a book's publication. So obviously, I am looking forward to summer in a way I haven’t been since I was in school when summer represented all we love: freedom, reading, sun and fun.

There are some really exciting things going on. First there is the paperback release of THE STORIES WE TELL; it's in stores today. If you missed THE STORIES WE TELL last year, here’s your chance to grab it in paperback. As Sara Gruen says about it, “Book clubs rejoice --- your next pick is here! THE STORIES WE TELL unfolds in surprising ways.” Come meet Eve, Cooper and their daughter, Gwen.

And we're only five weeks away from the release of my latest book, THE IDEA OF LOVE on June 23rd.

To celebrate, we have contests; a special pre-order offer; parties and events. I want you to be able to be part of it all. Scroll down for all the details.

Watch where you are walking!

Thanks for reading....

THE STORIES WE TELL - Available in Paperback - NOW

In THE STORIES WE TELL we meet Eve and Cooper Morrison, who are Savannah’s power couple. They’re on every artistic board and deeply involved in the community. She owns and operates a letterpress studio specializing in the handmade design; he runs a digital magazine featuring all things southern gentlemen. The perfect juxtaposition of the old and the new, Eve and Cooper are the beautiful people. The lucky ones. And they have the wealth and name that comes from being part of an old Georgia family.

But things may not be as good as they seem.

Eve’s sister, Willa, is staying with the family until she gets "back on her feet." Their daughter, Gwen, is all adolescent rebellion. And Cooper thinks Eve works too much. Still, the Morrison marriage is strong. After twenty-one years together, Eve and Cooper know each other. They count on each other. They know what to expect. But when Cooper and Willa are involved in a car accident, the questions surrounding the event bring the family close to breaking point. Sifting between the stories --- what Cooper says, what Willa remembers, what the evidence indicates --- Eve has to find out what really happened. And what she’s going to do about it.

“As we like to say in the south, ‘Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story.’”

Ella’s life has been completely upended. She’s young, beautiful, and deeply in love --- until her husband dies in a tragic sailing accident while trying save her. Or so she’ll have everyone believe. Screenwriter Hunter needs a hit, but crippling writers’ block and a serious lack of motivation are getting him nowhere. He’s on the look-out for a love story. It doesn’t matter who it belongs to. When Hunter and Ella meet in Watersend, South Carolina it feels like the perfect match, something close to fate.

In Ella, Hunter finds the perfect love story, full of longing and sacrifice. It’s the stuff of epic films. In Hunter, Ella finds possibility. It’s an opportunity to live out a fantasy – the life she wishes she had because hers is too painful. And more real. Besides. what’s a little white lie between strangers? But one lie leads to another, and soon Hunter and Ella find themselves caught in a web of deceit. As they try to untangle their lies and reclaim their own lives, they feel something stronger is keeping them together. And so they wonder: can two people come together for all the wrong reasons and still make it right?

Praise for THE STORIES WE TELL
So Much News to Share....

Dear Friends,

If we are made up of anything but blood and bones and a little cosmic stardust mixed in, we are made of stories. We all have them, and when we share our stories we connect with each other in larger, more beautiful ways. That’s what my new novel is about --- Stories, the ones we share and the ones we don’t; the ones we hide and the ones we disguise.

So as the summer approaches and we leave behind this crazy winter --- and equally unpredictable spring --- I am happy to share that my latest novel, THE STORIES WE TELL, releases in hardcover on June 24th. You can pre-order it here!

THE STORIES WE TELL is about the stories we tell and the people we trust. Eager to start reading now? Here's a look a chapter one.

Remodeling: A New Website...and More

I’ve been really busy getting ready for this release. There is so much going on. First, you know how I’m sort of obsessed with house decorating, right? But instead this time, I remodeled my website. Come over and visit. There’s lots of news there and I plan to keep the site updated as news becomes available!

On the subject of actual home remodeling, I am happy to share that my home in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina was featured in Country Living in May. You can read more about it here.

The Stories Behind the Stories: My Inspiration

There is a new section on my website filled with the inspiration and research for this novel. Here you will find all sorts of behind-the-scenes information. I have photos and articles, stories and goodies about THE STORIES WE TELL. I talk about how my nursing career influenced this story, my obsession with letterpress and stationery. There is a link to Pinterest where I’ve been pinning all my favorite images and quotes. Take a look!

Special Giveaway for THE STORIES WE TELL

Part of the research for this novel involved having my own logo and stationery made. Now I’m passing the fun along to you, too! Enter here by Thursday, June 12th to win one of five custom stamps with your initials. And take a look at mine there as well!

There are so many great events, including an art show and signing; a benefit for Shepherd Center in Atlanta; and much more. I am partnering with some of your favorite authors on the road: Carolyn O’Neill and her cookbook, Mary Alice Monroe, Mary Kay Andrews, Katie Crouch and more.

Live....On Video!

You know I want to meet every single one of you, but of course I can't! So we've made some videos where I talk about the inspirations, themes and characters in THE STORIES WE TELL. You can see the first here entitled "Inspiration." There are others where I discuss the book, the themes and hopefully answer some of your questions. They will be posted in the weeks to come!

Inspirational Images --- and Cards to Follow Soon!

In THE STORIES WE TELL, Eve Morrison is designing a card line based on a list she made with her sister, Willa. When they were children, they decided that the Ten Commandments were too full of things NOT TO DO and they made a list of lovely things TO DO. Each of THE TEN GOOD IDEAS has been paired with an image from Sandee O.’s art and photography. Sandee is one of my oldest friends and it was such fun working with her to select the right images for each idea. You can see them all here. Feel free to download these images to keep for yourself or share with your friends who need a little inspiration and some good thoughts.

Not Forgetting My New Paperback

Oh, and for those who still have not read my previous book, AND THEN I FOUND YOU, it's now out in paperback! More on that below.

AND THEN I FOUND YOU - Now in Paperback!

Kate Vaughan is no stranger to tough choices.

She’s made them before. Now it’s time to do it again.

Kate has a secret, something tucked away in her past. And she’s getting on with her life. Her business is thriving. She has a strong relationship with her family, and a devoted boyfriend whom she wants to love with all her heart. If Kate had ever made a list, Rowan would fill the imagined boxes of a perfect mate. But she wants more than the perfect on paper relationship; she wants a real and imperfect love. That’s why, when Kate discovers the small velvet box hidden in Rowan’s drawer, she panics.

It always happens this way. Just when Kate thinks she can love, just when she believes she can conquer the fear, she’s filled with dread. And she wants more than anything to make this feeling go away. But how?

When the mistakes have been made and the running is over, it’s time to face the truth. Kate knows this. She understands that a woman can never undo what can never be undone. Yet, for the first time in her life she also knows that she won’t fully love until she confronts those from her past. It’s time to act.

Can she do it? Can she travel to the place where it all began, to the one who shares her secret? Can the lost ever become found?

AND THEN I FOUND YOU gives new life to the phrase “inspired by a true story.” By travelling back to a painful time in her own family’s history, the author explores the limits of courage, and the price of a selfless act.

Praise for THE STORIES WE TELL

The themes of marriage, motherhood, and the price of success are standard for women’s fiction, but Henry has mastered the art of the slow reveal, leading the reader down unexpected paths. Readers who enjoy southern women’s fiction à la Joshilyn Jackson will appreciate this emotionally satisfying novel. --- Booklist

Full of twists and turns, this book will be one that you just can’t put down. --- Southern Living

“THE STORIES WE TELL fearlessly explores the textures of the human heart, finding a path toward hope through a Savannah that is jagged with class issues, faith misused, and broken trust. Henry loses you in a landscape peopled with secret keepers, storytellers and liars, and proves that in the end, love is the only reliable compass. This is everything you expect from Patti Callahan Henry—lyrical writing, characters worth rooting for, a sure-footed belief in the power of goodness—plus a twisty plot that will keep the pages turning long into the night.” --- Joshilyn Jackson, New York Times bestselling author of SOMEONE ELSE'S LOVE STORY

“Patti Callahan Henry’s THE STORIES WE TELL is a lyrical exploration of love and longing, secrets and suspicion, family and friendship, all told with the author’s trademark insights into the hollows and curves of the heart and mind of a working woman who must balance the demands of motherhood, wifedom, sisterhood, and yes, the deepest cravings for artistic expression. I always love the stories PCH tells!” --- Mary Kay Andrews, New York Times bestselling author of LADIES' NIGHT

“Patti Callahan Henry seamlessly combines mystery, family love, and personal journey all in one engrossing tale. From the intriguing beginning to the touching ending, The Stories We Tell is filled with the warmth, heart and compassion that have become the trademark of her novels.” --- Diane Chamberlain, internationally bestselling author of NECESSARY LIES

“Book clubs rejoice—your next pick is here! THE STORIES WE TELL unfolds in surprising ways; Patti Callahan Henry understands the delicate balance of power inside a marriage. They can look so externally perfect they can even fool even the people living inside them… for a little while. I loved her portrayal of a strong woman who isn’t afraid to be successful, even when others find it threatening, and who is bold enough to seek the truth, even when living inside the lies is safer and more comfortable.” --- Sara Gruen, New York Times bestselling author of WATER FOR ELEPHANTS and APE HOUSE

I Have an App --- and It's One to Be Shared!
Dear Friends,

I have an app; imagine that!

In my previous newsletters, I’ve talked about a new novel (which will be soon, I promise), or the seasons or my book tour, so you may ask what prompted me to create an app?

I was inspired by the wildflower-garden scene in COMING UP FOR AIR with the mother and daughter (Lily and Ellie). You can read it if you click here.

You see, every wildflower has a meaning and you by sending a particular flower to someone it can carry a special message: Love, Encouragement; Hope; Luck – they are all captured inside the wildflowers. You can say what you want with a flower.

I met with some app developers (a whole new thing to me after working with editors, publishers and agents through the years) and told them that I want to create something that my readers could use to share special feelings with friends. I want people to be able to use this app to send a wildflower to a friend while standing in the grocery store line or in-between life’s busiest moments. I want to create an easy way to reach out and let a friend or loved one know you’re thinking of them.

And WILDFLOWERS is just that easy, allowing you to send wildflowers by email, Facebook, or, for those friends who also have WILDFLOWERS installed, app-to-app.

Together with my friends at Chronicle, Tom Bell and Jamie Allen, I brainstormed and talked about this idea for months. We brought Armchair Media on board and Stefan Kjartansson, a graphic designer extraordinaire, took this idea and conceived vivid and spectacular wildflowers based on a fusion of Japanese woodcuts and Scandinavian patterns – they are gorgeous in all the best ways.

Sending a virtual wildflower -- A simple gesture. A kind gesture.

Enjoy it here. I’d love to hear how you shared these wildflowers with your friends.

---Patti Callahan Henry

The Perfect Love Song - Coming October 12th
Tour and Launch Party
Contest
Welcome from Patti Callahan Henry

I have always had a wild imagination, the kind of imagination that allowed me to believe I could fly or that my stories created worlds. In the spirit of my belief in the power of words, I've written a novella that also believes in this power.

I moved south when I was twelve years old and ever since then I have imagined that this land, this southern land, is made not of just dirt and homes and streets and oceans and rivers, but from stories. In some magical way, the south seems to be constructed from the fragments of stories told and retold, tales mastered until they are as solid as the concrete of any structure.

And that is exactly what this new novella - The Perfect Love Song - is about: how story builds a world and changes a life. My fascination (or obsession, depending on your definition) with myth and legend is an integral piece of this love story.

This holiday story asks the question: What is material gain compared to Love? Jimmy Sullivan must answer this question when he writes the "perfect" love song and is catapulted into a world of fame.

I hope you enjoy this story drenched in myth, legend and a wee bit of holiday magic.

To celebrate the release of The Perfect Love Song: A Holiday Story we have a contest for you. I've written only the first two lines of the song. You see, I'm not only envious of songwriters, but I have a fascination with their ability to tell a story in three stanzas while it takes me three hundred pages. I attempted to write a song for this book and made it to only the second line. So to that end, I am thrilled to announce that we have teamed up with award-winning country songwriter Dallas Davidson for a "Finish the Love Song" contest. (see below for more information). I look forward to seeing YOUR words to finish this song.

Warmly,
Patti Callahan Henry
The Perfect Love Song - Coming October 12th

In The Perfect Love Song, Callahan Henry tells the story of Jimmy Sullivan, who has been living on the road with his brother, Jack, and their band The Unknown Souls. The road is Jimmy's only home and music his only savior until he falls in love with a beautiful girl, Charlotte Carrington. Spending time with Charlotte inspires Jimmy to write a love song for her, which becomes an overnight sensation and is dubbed "The Perfect Love Song."

As Jimmy finds himself caught up in the desire for fame and fortune, the genuine lyrics of the song are overshadowed by his career ambitions. He begins to lose touch with Charlotte and makes a decision to miss his brother's wedding in Ireland for a chance to put on a show in New York City.

But on Christmas Eve Jimmy comes to a crossroads: Will he finally get the chance to perform on one of the biggest stages of his career?-or will he find his way back to his family, to Ireland...and to the love of his life, Charlotte?

Have you ever wanted to write a love song?

“I cannot find or define the moment you entered my heart.
When you entered and turned a light on in the deepest part…”

For those of you who entered the DRIFTWOOD SUMMER contest, below are the winners from a random drawing of all the entries. The driftwood art will be mailed to arrive over the holidays!

Thanks to everyone who wrote to me, entered the contest, came to book signings and enriched my life with your kind words!

I'll be traveling at the beginning of the year; please check my appearance schedule and see if I'll be anywhere near you. If I am, please come say hello.

Contest Winners:
Congratulations to -- Kim from Newport News, Virginia; Mary from Raleigh, NC; Debbie from China Spring, TX; and Teri from Escondido, CA.

And for those of you who are wondering what I'm working on this holiday season...it's my next year's gift to you, a Christmas novella. Currently titled THE (PERFECT) CHRISTMAS SONG, it's going to follow Jimmy and Charlotte from WHEN LIGHT BREAKS on a miraculous holiday journey. Looking forward to sharing this story with you in 2010!

Happy Holidays...

DRIFTWOOD SUMMER

An engaging novel of sisters, from the acclaimed author who "writes movingly about love and family and the voyage we all take to discover what we really value."(The Island Packet)

Three sisters- responsible Riley, vivacious Maisy, and fun-loving Adalee-reunite to save the family's beach-community bookstore. But summer also marks the return of Mack Logan, whose choice of Maisy over Riley years ago destroyed the special closeness between the sisters...

Now Riley, a single mom, is hiding a shattering secret about their mother. Maisy, a California designer, still blames Riley for ruining her one true love. And Adalee resents the family's intrusion into her summer plans. All three will be forced to confront the conflicts that tore them apart and the bounds of love and loyalty that still draw them together...
