“Memory is landscape and landscape is memory.”
Bonny Blankenship, The Bookshop at Water’s End
Summer is here, and The Bookshop at Water’s End,which is a perfect summer read, will be in bookstores tomorrow!
We all have our favorite summer memories, and are making new ones even as I write this newsletter. There is something about this season that causes reverie -– thoughts of childhood and freedom and time stretching across an endless sunny day. Well, those are the memories Bonny, my main character, had, and they were the ones she reached for when her world came undone. But we all know -– there are two sides to every remembrance. In The Bookshop at Water’s End, it
is the landscape of childhood summers that unlocks both the good and the bad for Bonny, her daughter, Piper and Bonny’s best friend, Lainey.
At The Pat Conroy Literary Center I had a lovely conversation about the book, for their "Porch Talk" series. You can pull up your own version of a porch chair and read that here.
BOOK TOUR: What are my stories without my readers? I am so excited that I will be touring 24(!) locations over the next month or so. Besides the traditional bookstore and library locations, events are taking place in bookshops on the water, art galleries, gift shops and more.

BOOK CLUB KIT:
For those of you in a book group, we've created this Book Club Discussion Kit with a piece from me about my inspiration for the story, as well as discussion questions that will make your book club meeting a breeze. Not in a book club? Here's a suggestion --- whether you are at the beach, a lake, a pool or other great summer location, think about just gathering a group of friends to read The Bookshop at Water’s End
and talk about it. A book club can happen wherever friends meet and want to talk about a book.
I'm reaching out with a quick note to let you know about a few big things happening in my world. Before the July 11th release of The Bookshop at Water's End, we have some new and exciting pre-publication programs happening that I wanted to share! Ready? Grab your favorite cold beverage and sit in your favorite summer spot (at least in your imagination?), as I share news about a giveaway, a special offer and my book tour.
Bookshop at Water's End is my twelfth novel, and it's a beloved one. For the first time I look back at my first career — nursing — as the main character is an emergency room doctor. She makes a terrible mistake — we all have — but hers involves life and death. While she sorts this out, she returns to her childhood summer home in a small town. Her favorite bookshop is there, as is her best friend, Lainey. We meet these women in the midst of a life crisis and watch how they build back their lives together! I hope you love them.
If you want to enter to win an advance reader's copy, visit Goodreads for your chance to win. This giveaway is open until Monday, May 22nd.
For a limited time, the e-book of my novel, Between the Tides, is available for just $1.99 at all online retailers. While Between the Tides
was my fourth published novel, it actually is the first novel I wrote -- the first story I felt was worth telling. I'm thrilled that this book that holds such a special place in my heart can now be all yours at this bargain price. Act now as this price is in effect only until this Sunday, May 14th.
I love seeing readers — and talking about books — when I am out on the road. We are putting the finishing touches on the
plans for my summer tour for The Bookshop at Water's End. Visit my website for a list of events. Stay tuned to my Facebook page
and the above events page as more specifics of these events get nailed down.
It's going to be a busy beautiful summer ahead! A highlight will be my tour, as I so look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones when I'm out on the road.
I will be back in touch in July with more news. Meanwhile, happy spring and happy reading.
Happy Spring! Everything is bursting open, including book news and contests and giveaways!
I am so pleased to bring you my newest novel, THE BOOKSHOP AT WATER’S END — my love letter to bookshops and readers alike. Since childhood bookshops and libraries have been my sanctuary, places where I felt I could find the next story to help me understand the world and my confusing life. It was herethat
I also found companions who loved stories and between-the-pages adventures as I did. Oh, don’t we all love how the community and warmth of bookshops can bring us together? And that is exactly what happens to the characters in this book, as they navigate their complicated lives, unfold mysteries from the past, and rediscover love stories that need mending.
THE BOOKSHOP AT WATER’S END is set in South Carolina, between a river house and a bookshop. It is there we meet Bonny Blankenship, an emergency room doctor who made a tragic error in the ER and has packed up her troubled nineteen-year-old daughter, Piper, to return to the summer family home she hasn’t visited in almost thirty years. Soon Bonny’s childhood best friend, Lainey, joins them with her two small children. But it’s not as simple as two
best friends reuniting, because during their last summer as young, innocent 13 year olds, Lainey’s mother disappeared and Bonny fell in love with Lainey’s brother. Now, back in the place it all began and seemingly ended, they reunite with the bookshop owner, Mimi, who knows more than she’s willing to tell.
It is this return to the shore that unlocks the answers to a past mystery. Welcome to the lives of Bonny, Piper and Lainey — where the past will change the future, where memory is locked inside the geography of the lush Lowcountry and where one small bookshop at Watersend brings it all together.
